You Are the Salt of the Earth is a deeply personal mixed-media work inspired by artist Nancy Okang’s decade of service as a volunteer Bible educator in Ghana, and the quiet sacrifices that have preserved the lives and futures of her students.

Set in the salt processing fields of Old Ningo, the painting deliberately centers salt as both livelihood and symbol. A reference to preservation, service, and impact. Okang stands beside those she’s taught, honoring the work her sacrifice helped sustain, while spotlighting salt as a vital export of the Dangme community.

Bold color and layered composition mirror the resilience and dignity of everyday labor.
